Lately we have been discussing local air pioneers. Today I show you a couple of photographs of old planes over Bolton.
The first picture, top, according to the caption in the paper in May, 1935, said: "Sir Alan Cobham's air liner flying over the Elgin-st. district yesterday. This picture was taken by an Evening News' photographer from an accompanying plane."
The other picture shows a wing walker (who also sat on the wing towards the end of his flight) pictured over Bury-rd., Breightmet, "from another air circus bi-plane operating from a field at Little Lever", also in the early 1930s.
