"All that jazz" -Chicago opened with a blaze of publicity, but deserved attention.
Forget Moulin Rouge, this is an all singing, all dancing, swinging, swaying true musical.
The basic story sees Roxy Hart (Rene Zellweger) killing her lover and literally getting away with it, while grasping at dreams of a life in that biz called show.
Enter stage left Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta Jones) as the celebrity Hart wants to be, the sting in the tale being star and fan meet in Mama Morton's prison after Kelly is arrested for murdering her husband and sister.
Billy Flynn, the one and only Mr. Richard Gere, plays the sharp suited, quick-witted lawyer who comes into the picture to save the girls from the gallows by "razzle dazzling" the jury.
The singing and dancing lessons it is reported Zellweger had before her musical dbut paid off, she was able to matched Zeta Jones step for step.
But the sparkling gem in the whole movie was Zeta Jones. She was absolutely amazing, giving every step and note her all, successfully pulling of all the physically demanding moves with professionalism and finesse.
This film is incredible, with twists and turns in the plot to keep you on the edge of your seat, you may have to apologise to the person next to you in advance for shouting out loud and spilling your popcorn!
Go and see Chicago- it's a must. The sound track is well worth the money too!
