Wanderers striker Neil Whatmore grabbed his 15th goal of the season to give his side a 1-0 win against Hull City.
He hit the target from point blank range in the 48th minute of a game played in difficult conditions with the Burnden Park pitch cutting up badly, which made passing difficult.
Hull goalkeeper Eddie Blackburn had to make a string of fine saves to keep the Tigers in the game, but hot-shot Whatmore stole the two points.
Peter Reid headed a Greaves cross at goal and although Lord blocked the ball and partially cleared, Whatmore crashed a shot into the roof of the net.
Reid was very close to doubling the lead in the dying moments when he hit a fierce shot following a Whatmore knock down.
But again Lord was on hand to palm the ball wide.
BRUCE Rioch's FA Cup heroes came back down to earth after the dizzy heights of Anfield - and landed safely on a cushion of three comforting league points.
The 3-1 win at home over Plymouth may not go down in Wanderers folklore - as the 2-0 win over Liverpool undoubtedly will - but it has certainly helped their promotion push.
The players looked as though they were suffering a cup hangover early in the game, but by half-time they were 3-1 up with super strikes from Andy Walker and Mark Seagraves.
Then Andy Morrison made the unwise career move of putting an own goal past player-manager Peter Shilton.
The best goal of the day came in the 26th minute from Plymouth's Paul Dalton who dribbled through the Whites' defence before dispatching an excellent finish.
