I AM writing in response to the letter in Monday's Bolton Evening News about the "residents only parking" at The Haulgh.
In my opinion, it is not working, as stated by B Brabin, it is a nightmare to some of us. The problem has just moved from the front street to the back street. I use the back yard as was intended, to house our motor vehicles. Most people do not. This is of course up to them.
I have been blocked in numerous times. This is totally unacceptable to me. I should be able to come and go from my home without having to call upon the police.
Damage to cars is more likely to happen at the rear of property than the front. And, as for it being safer for children, this is not so, for cars now go twice as fast as they did before up and down the street.
As for the removal of untaxed vehicles. Would you park your untaxed vehicle if you knew the traffic warden was coming round every hour? I don't think so.
My last comment is about why we should have to pay to park outside our own homes. Most people don't, and I certainly will not. The sooner they abolish this "permit holders only" scheme, the better -- we pay enough to keep our cars on the road as it is.
I would also like to comment to Idris Hughe -- what you started someone else finished and we are all paying in one way or another.
A very unhappy resident.
