POPULAR Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is to get its first amateur showing in Bolton.
State Fair may not be as well known as the other Rodgers and Hammerstein showcases such as Oklahoma, The Sound of music and South Pacific, but lives up to the name with a variety of well known tunes.
But surprisingly it has never been shown on the Bolton stage before.
However, members of St Philips Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society aim to put that right.
They showcase the musical from February 24 to March 1 at the Parochial Hall, Bridgeman Street, Bolton, 7.15pm each night.
And the show will feature two award winning actors in leading roles.
Alistair Campbell won the best actor in a musical title at the annual BATS/Bolton Evening News awards last year for his portrayal of Curley in last year's production of Oklahoma. He plays opposite Jenny Bowling who won the award for best actress in a youth musical for her performance as Tallulah in Bugsy Malone at the Greater Manchester Drama Federation presentation night.
Other leading roles in State Fair go to Adrian Pollitt and Heather Ogden. Mina Kirkbright will be directing and choreography is by Barbara Grant. Brian Lawson is musical director for the production.
Tickets for the show are from Mrs Holt on 01204 524800.
St Philips may well be winning awards for its shows now, but is also keen to maintain high standards well into the future with its thriving junior group.
Last November, the company's active junior workshop performed the musical Oliver to rave reviews, while managing to raise money for charity.
The group have handed over a cheque for £300 to the Mayor of Bolton Cllr John Walsh for his chosen charity.
