Q: I have a doll given as a present 50 years ago. It has the name Raynal on it, and is about 18 inches tall. It has had replacement clothes. I also have a money box in the form of a book by the GPO. Do these items have any value?
Mrs G
A: Dolls are collected mainly by manufacturer and Raynal is a little-known brand with no appreciable collectors following. The doll was almost certainly new when given in the 1950s, and while this type of celluloid or plastic doll is becoming more collectable, values are mainly in the £20 to £40 category. However, collectors prefer dolls with original clothes, and thus prices for non-original dolls can often by much less.
The moneybox is typical of many issued by banks and building societies, mainly in the 1930-60 period. Most examples tend to be priced at £10 to £15 each.
