GRAPES Hotel marksman Glen Longworth produced the golden shot that finally ended Farnworth Whites' brave bid to make progress in the Open Cup.
Whites, second in Division One, held the Premier Division side to 3-3 after 90 minutes as both attacks put on a magnificent show of goalscoring.
Steve Young, Andy Kitchen and Tony Harrison were on target for the Whites but they had to bow to the talents of Longworth, who hit a hat-trick to keep his side in the game.
And when the tie moved into extra-time, Longworth popped up again to hit the golden goal winner to take his side into the next round.
Seven Stars kept the First Division flag flying when they accounted for New Edition of the Premier. Again the scores were tied at full time after Phil Mason and Chris Jones scored for New Edition and Lee Lomax and Dave Winnard for Stars but then Matt Dunn settled the tie for the First Divison side with the golden goal.
Another First Division side to oust a Premier outfit were NorthWest Paper, who beat Hare and Hounds 3-2.
Goals from Northwest's Gary Walton, Nathan Barlow and Carl Taliday accounted for Hounds, which was hard luck on Lee Howarth, who hit both goals for the losers.
No such problems for Premier leaders Tonge Moor Cons Club, who went through 3-1 winners against Beaumont with goals from Clint Ramsden, Neil Ross and Barry Wilcox. Adam Kay scored Beaumont's consolation.
Doffcocker were also never tested by Cherry Tree Park as they strolled to a 12-1 win, four goals each for Nick and Damien Smith with an Ian Cockerham double and one each from Ben Eccleshaw and Alex Blackburn.
Griffin, too, followed the formbook as they emphatically beat Farmers Arms 5-0. Hitting the target for them were Shaun Whorlow (2), Mark Calow, Tony Urmston and John Bonney.
In the league, Horwich Victoria and Carters Arms stayed in Premier title contention after enjoying high-scoring wins.
Victoria beat Clifton Rangers 7-2, two goals each for Lovell Hailwood, Daniel Spillman and James Charlton with Andy Elliott getting the other while Carters beat Bowling Green 7-1, Carl Banks and Clint McLoughlin hitting doubles with the other goals coming from Rod Owen, Dean Banks and Wayne Dalton.
Ladybridge were 3-0 winners at Bottom Bull in the First Divison, Chris Lawson, James Reynolds and Richard Massey hitting their goals. In the same division, Greenwood inflicted a 5-1 defeat on Smithills, Matt Wolfenden 2, Stewart Gaskell, Rob Fisher and Gary Askew hitting the target.
