IT is not just the high cost of car parking in Bolton that is driving people away, it is the sight of shop units closed and shuttered.
The council should be concentrating on getting these leased out. This would bring in some revenue and more people.
Bradshawgate is now just pubs, wine bars and estate agents, hardly any shops. Nelson Square has no shops now, just pubs, wine bars and shuttered shop units.
Knowsley Street, Newport Street and Deansgate have all got shuttered shop units, some of them have been closed for years.
If you want people to visit the town and shops, the last thing they want is high parking costs and shuttered shops.
If anyone has visited Preston lately, you will see why they got be a City and not Bolton.
