THE driver involved in a three-car pile-up which resulted in the death of a

Bolton man and his three-year-old son has been interviewed by police.

The 18-year-old man, from Euxton, has not been charged with any offences

following the accident in Euxton on Sunday afternoon.

Mark Humphries, age 40, of Quebec Street, Deane, was killed when his Ford

Escort was hit head on by a Ford Focus being driven by the teenager.

The Focus had careered out of control and crossed on to the wrong side of

A581 Dawber's Lane into the path of Mr Humphries' car, which was travelling

in the opposite direction.

It then hit a Mercedes Benz being driven by a Farnworth man who escaped

injury.

Mr Humphries' son, Kieran Rice, who was in the back seat with his

12-year-old sister Rachel, suffered serious head and internal injuries. He

died on Monday at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in Pendlebury.

Rachel, who suffered serious internal injuries, is in the Pendlebury

hospital. Her condition is said to be poorly but stable and she has

undergone surgery to remove her spleen.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: "The 18-year-old has not been charged

in connection with the crash. He will be interviewed again at a later date

when all the evidence in relation to the collision has been collated."

The

teenage driver received hospital treatment following the accident which

happened at about 3.45pm.
