A WOMAN told Bolton Crown Court she was raped by a man who also slapped her two-week-old baby across the face.

The victim said that following the sex attack she left her home and met her mother and aunt, but did not tell them what had happened.

In cross-examination, the woman said her baby had fallen asleep twice after allegedly being slapped round the head by Tabriaz Mahmood. She said she had not been worried about the baby because, following the rape, she had been concerned about herself.

Mahmood, aged 22, of Cecil Street, Bury, is on trial on a total of 12 charges including four of rape, two of causing actual bodily harm, four of common assault and one of making a threat to kill the woman. He is also accused of intimidation, by making threats through a third party that the woman should drop the charges. He denies all the charges.

Yesterday, giving evidence, the woman said she had not told her mother that Mahmood had assaulted the baby or that he had raped her because she had been embarrassed. She denied making up the allegations. Previously the court had heard that, according to the woman, Mahmood had slapped the baby across the face when she refused him sex.

When arrested by police, Mahmood said that he did not need to rape anyone as he had six girlfriends on the go and could get sex whenever he liked.
