THE North-west's top manufacturing showcase event has been switched from Manchester to Bolton.
Bolton and Bury Chamber of Commerce are celebrating a major coup thanks to the decision by North-west Manufacturing Exhibition organisers.
Exhibitors and visitors are coming to the Reebok Stadium on November 5 and 6 after several successful years at G-Mex in Manchester.
Chamber officials helped persuade exhibition organisers to back their efforts to celebrate Bolton's 750th birthday.
The showcase will now be added to the calendar of events marking the signing of Bolton's charter in 1253.
The Chamber of Commerce wants to reinforce the message that Bolton has established a reputation over the centuries as a key trade centre.
The North-west Manufacturing Exhibition will supersede an event which the Chamber was previously planning to spearhead in May.
John Birch, the chamber's supply chain director, said: "It is very fitting that the North-west's major engineering and manufacturing forum will take place in Bolton during its special anniversary year."
He added: "Thousands of new ideas, innovations and products will be on show with more than 160 companies exhibiting at the event. This is a chance for engineers and manufacturers from throughout the region to catch up on new techniques, and to update their knowledge at the free seminars."
Exhibition organiser Colin Tunnicliffe said: "We are delighted to bring the show to Bolton during its 750th anniversary year.
"The Reebok Stadium, with its superb, purpose-built facilities, its free parking and excellent communications links, is the perfect venue for us."
