PENSIONER Elsie Barton wanted to reward a shop assistant for her "kindness".
The 83-year-old widow from Halliwell was so touched by the actions of Mrs Sandra Speakman that she contacted the Bolton Evening News and nominated her for our "bouquet of the week".
Mrs Speakman works at the Textiles Direct shop in Newport Street, Bolton, and has helped Mrs Barton on two separate occasions.
The first time was when she dropped some of Mrs Barton's bulky shopping off for her and the second time she fitted a net curtain pole at her home.
Mrs Barton said: "I bought a curtain pole but I didn't have anyone to fit it for me. This kind lady came to my house, after she finished work on a very cold evening, and fitted the pole for me.
"I thought it was so thoughtful of her. She didn't have to do it, but it was a big help to me."
Mrs Speakman, aged 52, of Horwich, said she was "speechless" when told about the nomination.
When she had got over the shock she said: "Mrs Barton's house is on my way home. I was just pleased to be able to help her."
