FIRST there was Superman, then there was Batman and now Bolton's Museum Man is set to appear at the town's libraries.

Ibrahim Kala, who is more used to his "real life" role of racial equality officer, has become a comic book character.

But he does not save the planet or struggle with evil villains. Instead he has been drawn as himself in a new publication, What in the World.

Aimed at getting young people interested in North-west museum and art exhibitions, the publication features Bolton man Mr Kala in a story called Police Show.

Mr Kala said: "I think it is great. I have had the mickey taken out of me by some of my friends but I don't mind because what the comic is promoting is important."

The story tells how his work as a racial equality officer led him to develop an exhibition at Bolton Museum and Art Gallery about the history of the police.

He was doing this when he was approached by the internationally acclaimed artists Grennan and Sperandio to do the cartoon characterisation.

The comic features nine stories and a host of games and competitions. More than 20,000 copies have been printed and distributed free of charge throughout the North-west, including a number of Bolton libraries and community groups.
