Rivington's poor form since Christmas continued with the team losing their third consecutive game against an impressive Gregorian side.
Since the Christmas break Rivington have lost all three games and only scored in one of the three games.
Gregorians were clearly a very impressive outfit moving the ball well in the early exchanges and dominating the game. Rivington, however, showed great tenacity to deny Gregorians time and space.
The first half was played almost entirely in Rivington's half but due to a combination of impressive goalkeeping from Alan Fairbrother and some critical tackles by Rob Higgins and Richard Boardman in particular, the half ended goalless.
The second half started with Rivington being far more positive. Danny Purnell in particular had chances to score, and the industry of Steve McDonald and Austin Broomby were causing concern in the Gregorian defence. However Rivington fell behind during this period due to a poor clearance falling to a Gregorian Striker giving Alan Fairbrother no chance.
Rivington tried to get back into the game but despite a lot of effort, the Gregorian goalkeeper only had to deal with a Dave Walker free kick.
With approximately ten minutes to go Gregorians doubled the lead scoring after a corner was not properly cleared. This in effect killed the game, with Gregorians coming out worthy winners.
