RESIDENTS of a Bolton street had to be evacuated when a flat was set alight in a suspected arson attack early today.
The flat in Bromwich Street was occupied but no one was at home when the fire was started at around 3.30am.
Firefighters, who had to break into the flat, battled the blaze for about one and a half hours and residents of neighbouring units were able to return to their homes once they had ventilated the building.
Sub officer Shaun Walton said: "The flat was already well alight when we arrived and it was largely destroyed. Police are investigating."
