JUST because people choose to be vegetarian, doesn't mean they have to miss out on a glass of fizz.
A new vegan and vegetarian Champagne from Duval-Leroy is produced using traditional (enlightened viticulture) methods only. Which means, according to Herve Jestin -- Chef de caves at Duval-Leroy: "A method of cultivation that helps preserve the long-term potential of the soil and excludes the use of any animal fining agents."
And with a grape variety of 100 per cent Pinot Noir, it tastes very nice too.
A LITTLE early for Mother's Day I know but it's good to be prepared. Why not treat your mum to a pair of gorgeous Italians, namely Big Mamma's Negro Amaro and Chardonnay.
The Italian Chardonnay 2001 is fresh and zesty while the Negro Amaro 2001 is rich and spicy and perfect with pizza and pasta. Available from Sainsbury's £3.99.
HANDS up those of you who remember Sarsaparilla...
This cordial has a magical ability to conjure up images of yesterday and still packs a punch with its ginger and liquorice overtones. Mawson's Sarsaparilla is available in 350 supermarkets and health food shops across the country and costs £2.49 for a 375ml bottle.
