The Red Square Vodka Gold Cup is the major trial for the Grand National in April. And last year's Aintree winner Bindaree is set to take his place in the race.

Twenty-one of the horses that hold entries for the Grand National are set for the £110,000 Haydock event run over three and a half miles.

Other runners include leading Liverpool fancies Shotgun Willy and Gunner Welburn, who is unbeaten at Haydock in his two previous runs at the track.

Also in the field is the veteran Bobby Grant, a big favourite with the Haydock crowd over the years.

Trainer Ginger McCain, who sent out Red Rum to win his first Grand National 30 years ago, has two choices on Saturday for his Aintree hopeful Amberleigh House. The horse could run in either the Red Square Vodka Gold Cup or a two- and-a-half mile chase half an hour earlier.

Amberleigh House is owned by Halewood International, the sponsors of the main event. Halewood International's support extends its involvement at Haydock Park. For the second year, the group sponsored the brush hurdles series of races, which climaxed earlier this month, and the racecourse's Champion Hurdle Trial that was run in January.

Adam Waterworth, Haydock Park's general manager, said: "We're set for a superb Saturday with some of the best National Hunt horses in Britain on their way here for their final races before the Grand National."
