Q: My mother has a novelty jam pot in the shape of a yellow caravan. On it there is a number plate JAM 42. It looks rather Art Deco in period. What is it worth?
Mrs E
A: This item is worth about £80 to £100 and certainly was made in the Art Deco period of the 1930s. It was one of a series of transport themed pottery tea ware made by companies such as Fieldings and Sadlers in the Staffordshire Potteries. Jam pots, sugar bowls and teapots all made in the form of cars, trains and even aeroplanes. The most common is a teapot in the form of a racing car, with a registration plate OKT 42 (think about it!) and examples normally fetch from £150 to £200.
