REGARDING that junction blackspot, the A6 Manchester Road in Blackrod.

Once again, on Tuesday, February 11, at teatime, we had a major road accident which involved three vehicles, one going across the grass verge, the footpath and then through a fence and hedge.

Accidents are frequent at this junction but when we, the town council, report these accidents to Bolton Council, we are told there are very few accidents recorded at this junction and there is no money to improve it.

Both the police and ambulance staff attended this accident, so it should be recorded somewhere. How many more major accidents do we have to have before Bolton Council carries out road improvements to this junction?

The main hazard at this junction is the positioning and size of the first bollard, which hides the indicators of the vehicles travelling on the A6 from the traffic waiting to leave Blackrod and join the A6. If this bollard was reduced in size, this would reduce the number of accidents. . .

There has been a big increase in traffic using both the A6 and this junction and, with the new developments which have been passed for Middlebrook and the Football Academy, this will further increase the traffic volume. What will Bolton Council do other than bury its head in the sand like an ostrich and say: "What problem?"

Blackrod Town Council knows what the problems are. We live here and see all the accidents and have been asking for improvements to this junction since 1976. So, come on, Bolton Council, improve this accident "blackspot" fully and not half-heartedly, as you did last time, before we start counting lives instead of crashes.
