THE parking problems and charges in Bolton town centre are apparently a never-ending saga.
The hundreds of letters over the last 10 years show 99 per cent against the system. But the one letter that stands out above all the others is one from W J Harrison of Ashton in Makerfield (Bolton Evening News, February 8).
Here we have a man who did everything possible to stay on the right side of the law, and was still penalised. Penalised for a minor technicality that he could not possibly be expected to be aware of.
I am a firm believer in democracy and in charges, provided that the charges are fair and properly publicised. But an authority that cannot tell the difference between right and wrong has some serious thinking to do. How on earth can we expect good citizens if we treat the good and bad alike and tar them both with the same brush?
The council is setting a dangerous precedent by not treating the law abiding citizen with the respect that they deserve.
