A SIX-year-old girl said she saw a man trying to have sex with her pregnant mother as she slept beside her, a court heard.

In a video-taped police interview played at Bolton Crown Court yesterday, the girl said she woke to see a man in bed with her mother who was trying to push him off.

The girl said that before the attack she and her mother had been at home, but they left following an argument with her mum's partner.

They ended up at the home of her friend, Munib Sarcevic. They had something to drink before going to sleep in a bedroom. It is alleged the attempted rape by Sarcevic then took place.

Married Sarcevic, aged 44, of Shepherd Cross Street, Bolton, is on trial at Bolton Crown Court facing one count of attempted rape.

The 28-year-old pushed him off and managed to get him out of the room. They then got dressed and tried to leave the house. As they left the girl said the man slapped her mother across the face.

Earlier, the court heard that the woman, who was 18 weeks' pregnant, had woke to find the man in bed with her.

Because her daughter was asleep beside her she tried to persuade the man to stop but he continued to try and force her to have sex.

When arrested by police and interviewed Sarcevic, who comes from Bosnia, made no comment.

He denied the charge. Prosecutor Eric Lamb earlier told the court that on July 27 last year the woman and her partner had been out drinking.
