SOLICITORS are celebrating after winning a case where they were all on the same side -- to stop a lap-dancing club being set-up in Bolton.

The decision by Bolton Council to reject Bar Juice's application to allow lap-dancing has calmed fears for businesses in the Mawdsley Street area.

Five firms of solicitors objected to the plans for a club above Bar Juice.

They argued that the street was a conservation area, and so would not be the right place for a lap-dancing club.

The Licensing and Environmental Regulation Committee ruled the proposed £500,000 topless dancing club would lead to more nuisance, and would increase the threat of crime and disorder in the conservation area.

Nick Lewis, of Kippax, Beaumont and Lewis, said: "We are very pleased.

"We said having a lap-dancing club immediately opposite our office would alter the nature of the area, and Bolton town centre has enough problems without spreading the entertainment area into the business area.

"This is a conservation area and a designated business area so a lap-dancing club would be totally inappropriate."

Bar Juice is considering an appeal through the magistrates court. Under the proposal, visitors would have been charged £10 to visit the club, which was aimed at the business market.

People would have paid £5 to watch G-string clad dancers perform for five minutes, before girls removed their bras.

At a licensing meeting earlier this week Alan Walsh, who represented Bar Juice owner Paul Roberts, said the club, which would be called The Penthouse, would be tasteful.
