NEARLY 3,000 children were found skipping school during a recent crackdown on truancy in the region, new figures have revealed.
The sweeps by North-west police found there were 4,900 children out of school, more than 2,900 of whom had no good reason.
Minister for Young People Ivan Lewis wants on-the-spot fines for parents.
