LRC's best rider of 2002, Craig Battersby, started his race campaign as he finished last year by winning the first event of the Lancs and Lakes SPOCO series outright in a time of 23 minutes 58 seconds for the 10.2 mile 'sporting' course around Bolton-By-Bowland.
Craig was head and shoulders above the rest of the field beating his nearest rival by over a minute. Benifiting from a close season spent training with Craig, Glen Kenyon was LRC's second fastest rider with 27-34 norrowly beating Lee McCarty's 27-53. These three riders start the season long competition in 2nd place in the team standings.
Sean Warren (28-59), Dene Fisher (29-07) and Graham Hall (32-18) made up LRC's second team in the overall standings. Graham Hall's time was good enough to put him into first place in the 'Vets over 60' table.
In last year's SPOCO competion, LRC only managed two riders with enough qualifying rides at the end of the season but Lancashire Road Club will definitly be in the running for overall victory this year.
