TWO teams from the Premier Division and two from Division Two won through to the semi-finals of the Warburton Cup.

Ladybridge B, receiving ten points start, comfortably beat Premier Division leaders Ramsbottom A 5-2, which included three wins by Phil Myers and one apiece by Paul Whyatt and Alan Hardman.

Hilton C, on six points start, were never troubled by their Division One opponents Wingates. They only lost one of the last seven sets to clinch a 7-2 victory, with three wins for Pete Bladen and two each for John Brinkworth and Ian Wheeldon.

Premier Division contenders Hilton Tameside gave YMCA 14 points start but ran out 5-1 winners, despite the majority of the games being close. Two wins came for Phil Biggs and Paul Collins, plus one for Jeff Craighill.

Starting on scratch, Ramsbottom B surprisingly beat Cricketers 8-1, with trebles by Terry Taylor and Wayne Renton, plus two wins by Nigel Hallows.

Hilton C will now take on Hilton Tameside in the semi-finals, while Ladybridge B face Ramsbottom B.

In the George Yates Shield Third Division Heaton E, on seven points start, knocked out holders Halls from Division Two 6-3. The win included an excellent treble by Alan Crompton, two wins for Andy Riley and one by Glen Roberts.

The Ladybridge C trio of Brian Greenhalgh, John Birchall and Brian Lingwood made good use of their five points start to beat fellow Division Three team Meadow Hill A 9-0.

Perhaps the closest match of the week was between two Third Division teams.

Little Lever D edged out Hilton E 5-4, with two wins from Mark Martin and Bob Waller plus one by Alan Price. One match between Ladybridge B and Hilton H remains outstanding.

Little Lever D now take on Ladybridge C in the semis, with Heaton E facing Ladybridge B or Hilton H.

In the Brian Gittins Cup, three Premier teams are in the semi-finals.

Ramsbottom A proceeded with a comfortable 8-1 win over Little Lever A. Wharton A beat Division One team Wingates 6-3, despite giving five points start, and Cricketers received a walkover.

One match remains outstanding between Chorley Old Road and Hilton B.

In the semi-finals, Cricketers will tackle Wharton A, while Ramsbottom A will battle it out with Chorley Old Road or Hilton B.
