ENTRIES are flooding in for the ground-breaking Lexmark European Art Prize which carries a £30,000 award for the winner.

Professor Brendan Neiland, Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools and Chairman of the Lexmark European Art Prize said: "Traditionally we expect most artists to reside in Southern Europe, in countries such as Italy and Spain, but the results of the Lexmark European Art Prize appear to suggest differently.

"Perhaps we are witnessing a shift in the art world, whereby more and more artists are emerging in Scandinavia."

The initiative is a democratic prize open to artists across Europe, with the principle aim of making art accessible to everyone. Entries are accepted until March 31, with the winner announced during the FIAC art week in Paris in October.
