A FARM worker hanged himself as his fiancee sat downstairs, just days after they got engaged.
An inquest in Bolton heard that Craig Michael Weaver, aged 25, had a history of depression and non-serious attempts at self harm.
But just days before he died, the father-of-one had become engaged to girlfriend Kate McKearnan. She told the inquest: "We did have a few problems, but we were trying to work things out."
On the night Mr Weaver died, Miss McKearnan had been out with friends and returned to his home, in Devonshire Road, Atherton.
She said he appeared quiet but not obviously upset.
He went upstairs, and when he did not reappear, she went to find him and discovered his body hanging from a rope on the landing.
Unable to find the house keys, she climbed through a window to get help.
Coroner Jennifer Leeming concluded that, because Miss McKearnan was in the house at the time and Mr Weaver could easily have been found, he did not intend to kill himself and his act was more a cry for help. She recorded a verdict of misadventure.
Recording a verdict of misadventure she added: "While Craig did the act in question he did not intend the consequences."
