WESTHOUGHTON Lions U9s played well but went down 16-10 to Latchford. A rusty Under 10s lost to Halton Hornets 16-0.
This was the first match of the second half of the season that last saw action three months ago.
With the inter schools Tag Tournament occupying both the coaches and the pitches, little hands on training had been possible in preparation for playing the best Under 10s team in North West Counties.
The score, therefore, was a credit to the Lions - only conceding three tries, and also creating the opportunity for two of their own, but not taking advantage of their field position.
Alex Davidson caused the Hornets trouble in both attack and defence, while Netchell Roocroft and Matthew Crow defended soundly.
Douglas Cunningham was Most Improved Player and Jack Fairweather received the Coaches Award.
