IT is National Marmalade Day on Friday 7th March 2003 and in recognition of 508 years of the great British Breakfast preserve Manchester's famous preserve manufacturer, F Duerr and Sons, is giving away hundreds of jars absolutely free!
National Marmalade Day celebrates the 508th birthday of Marmalade. Port records show that 'marmalada' was first delivered to the Port of London on10th March 1495, all the way from Portugal.
Duerr's have been producing marmalade in Manchester since 1881, and convert 2000 tonnes of Seville oranges -- the quintessential ingredient of marmalade -- into 20 million jars of marmalade annually, filling 50 jars every 10 seconds.
Britain is a nation of marmalade lovers and no English breakfast is served without the perfect ending -- toast and marmalade. Duerr's manufacture 12 different varieties of marmalade and their famous 'English Traditional' is
the UK's most popular fine cut marmalade.
To celebrate marmalade's 508th birthday, Duerr's are giving away a year's supply of their best selling marmalades to 11 Bolton Evening News reader club members.
