I WOULD like to bring to your attention the misleading comments made by Conservative councillors in the Bolton Evening News on Thursday, February 20, concerning car parking charges.
The deputy leader of the Conservative group of Bolton council called on the Labour group to abandon its increase in car parking charges. However, this does not reflect how the Conservative group voted at the full council meeting on Wednesday, February 19.
At the meeting, on behalf of the Liberal Democrat group, I moved an amendment to delete the £45,000 increase in the car parking charges with a reduction in the council's advertising budget.
However, when it came to the vote, Conservatives councillors voted with Labour councillors to keep the increase and to defeat the Liberal Democrat amendment to reduce the level of charges.
This is a clear indication to the public of Bolton that the Conservative group makes loud noises about issues affecting Bolton but, when it comes to the vote, they were quite happy to support a Labour group in its increase in car parking charges.
Cllr David Wilkinson
Deputy Leader
Bolton Liberal Democrat Group
