THE Council has painted white lines on the pavement in Halstead Street, Bolton. The purpose of the white lines is so that vehicles can park on the pavement. I am amazed as I was taught that to park on the pavement may be illegal and could cause an obstruction for pedestrians.
So, to all the people in the Dorset Street triangle who have to pay to park outside their homes, maybe it is OK to park on the pavement (for free) as long as you are not causing an obstruction.
Perhaps some solicitor reading this could clarify the position. If the council has got this wrong, a lot of people would be entitled to a refund of parking fees, and the parking scheme deemed void.
