MERELY by looking at the gigantic, glamorous queue to get into The Last Drop hotel, we suspected we were in for a good night.
Once inside we weren't disappointed. This special one-off club night, organised by DJ Danny Whitehead, held some very Ibiza-esque qualities and though the "pyjama party" theme was not exactly embraced, there could be no complaints as far as style was concerned.
Who would have thought Bolton could be so glamorous? String vests and miniskirts were the must-wear outfits for the girls, while the blokes came out in their Ibiza best, with snazzy shirts and sunglasses a-go-go.
The tickets for Coco Loco sold out rapidly days before the event, and the atmosphere inside reflected this excitement. As well as plenty of Bolton faces, it seemed that clubbers had come from outside the town to sample the night, leading to a pleasingly eclectic mix of ages and styles.
The Last Drop was a good choice of venue, offering stylish, carpeted cool, with a large room split into a chill out area and a main dance room, plus an R'n'B and 80s room pumping out impressive tunes all night.
The only complaint would be the small, sparsely staffed bar, which meant that some precious dancing time was lost queuing for a drink.
But the funky house tunes and fab atmosphere of the event couldn't be faulted and the Manumission style entertainment, including breakdancers, were particularly impressive.
The organisation of Coco Loco also deserves a mention. There was a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with no trouble and there were even signs up advising punters to order taxis at the beginning of the evening, complete with a list of numbers. A very thoughtful touch.
All in all Coco Loco delivered on its promise and left hundreds of clubbers smiling. Anyone from Bolton was guaranteed a "Friends Reunited" type of night as old faces from years ago turned up in their droves and anyone into clubbing was certain of a night of non-stop dancing.
The last half hour was a clubber's dream - with old skool numbers such as Brother Sister by the Brand New Heavies and a remix of It's My Life by Talk Talk bringing Coco Loco to a cracking close.
Alas, the plug was pulled at 2am sharp, a shame as the crowd could have gone on for hours more. Luckily for those determined to dance all night, Juice was rather cannily open until 6am, allowing them to do just that. And as for the rest of us, well let's just say the next Coco Loco can't come too soon.
