A WOMAN who tried to abduct a child from Bury bus station has been sentenced to a hospital order.
Christina Haughton pounced on a four-year-old boy when his mother's back was turned and started to lead him away. The mother was alerted when she heard her son shout: "Get off me you're not my mother."
The mother managed to grab back her child with the help of three other people in the bus station. When arrested, Haughton said she had been drinking and smoking cannabis and only meant to take the boy for 10 minutes.
Haughton, aged 32, of Hurst Street, Bury, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence. She admitted one charge of attempted child abduction.
The incident happened on July 7 last year when the mother, along with her four-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter, were waiting for a bus.
Judge Bernard Lever agreed to make a hospital order and told Haughton that he hoped she would receive the help she needed while in the hospital.
