DURING the recent council Budget Meeting, the Leader of the Council, Bob Howarth, favourably compared Bolton's council tax increase against the "excessive" rises of council taxes being implemented by some Conservative councils in the South of England.
It is fact that this Labour Government has deliberately starved Conservative-controlled councils of cash so that additional taxpayer funding can be switched to areas represented by Labour.
It is pretty obvious that, once millions of pounds were taken away from Conservative authorities and handed over to authorities which are represented by the Labour Party, this would happen.
Grants to Labour authorities have risen on average by 5.6 per cent, compared with 3.7 per cent for Conservative-run councils. This is an attempt by a desperate Government to prop up its vote in the May local elections. It will take more than that to save not only Bolton's Labour council, but also this flagging Labour Government.
Time and time again we have been made to pay for the incompetence's of this Labour Government and council.
