TWO showbusiness stars from Leigh put on a special show to pay tribute to a South Wales-born Freeman of Wigan.
Georgie Fame and Andy Prior, who hail from Cotton Street and Plank Lane, Leigh, respectively, were top of the bill guests at a special night to honour Wigan rugby league legend Billy Boston.
The event, at the Mill on the Pier, proved an outstanding event, with the two entertainers performing with the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra for a night to remember in front of an audience containing some of the game's biggest stars.
And there was one more touch of nostalgia when Georgie was joined by former Leigh rugby league club director Tommy Sale and former Wigan rugby stars, Frankie Parr and Colin Tyrer.
Tommy Sale is a former headmaster of St Peter's CE School, Leigh and in the 50s he coached the school rugby team, which boasted the talents of Messrs Fame, Parr and Tyrer. Georgie, whose real name is Clive Powell, was captain of that team.
