TWO trains were delayed after a double-decker bus became wedged under a railway bridge in Bromley Cross.
The Blue Bus number 34 service was travelling along Turton Road to pick up pupils from nearby Turton High School when it became stuck at 3.30pm yesterday. Police said a white Astra van turning left on to Turton Road from Chapeltown Road caused the driver to veer left as he went under the bridge.
The bus, which had no passengers on board, became wedged against the bridge. The driver escaped unhurt. Traffic was held up as Railtrack officials assessed the safety of the bridge. It was not damaged and the bus was moved forward more than an hour later.
Two trains due to pass overhead on the Bolton to Manchester line were held up for an hour. Blue Bus immediately put on another service to the school.
Commercial manager Andrew Jarvis said: "The driver, who is fully qualified, is fine and the bus was only minimally damaged. No windows were smashed. We will now work with the police to conduct an investigation."
