ALICE Chadwick has just celebrated her 100th birthday -- and her children thinks she's "supercalifrajalisticexpialidocious".
As a young woman she brought up her three children while holding down two jobs. And she also played nanny to a little Mary Poppins. Mrs Chadwick worked in a mill by day and behind the bar at the Grand Theatre by night.
It was in the theatre that she looked after Julie Andrews -- who played Mary Poppins in the hit film of the same name -- while her parents, Ted and Barbara Andrews, were on stage.
One of her sons, Jack, said: "She worked hard all her life and somehow managed to do two jobs for nearly 50 years. In my book, that's even more amazing than looking after Julie Andrews."
Mrs Chadwick was born in Bolton in 1903. She lived in Princess Street after marring husband John in 1926.
She has also lived in Lowndes Street, Skagen Court and St George's Court.
The grandmother of five and great-grandmother of nine celebrated her birthday with friends at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Adelaide Street. Working hard -- with a spoonful of sugar -- are her secrets for a long and happy life.
