I MUST reply to a letter from the Deputy Leader of the Lib Dems, which was totally inaccurate and a complete distortion of the facts.
There were actually two amendments:
1. The first amendment from the Lib Dems was to increase parking charges by no more than the rate of inflation. The Conservative group, including myself, voted against this amendment.
2. The second amendment from the Conservative Group included a commitment to reduce parking charges, to introduce specific short stay free parking, together with a total commitment to pay on exit and an improvement in secure parking. All the Conservatives supported this amendment, but it was defeated.
The proposition from the controlling group was to increase certain parking charges by the rate of inflation plus four per cent.
The Conservative Group voted against this proposal, however it was carried. Let's get the record straight.
Cllr N Critchley
Deputy Leader
Conservative Group
Town Hall, Bolton
