HIGH fliers Oldham found Tyldesley a tough nut to crack as the visitors' back row put up an excellent defence.
Oldham finally broke through after ten minutes, with David Worrall touching down for the first of his three tries.
Mark Dickinson was on target for Tyldesley with this third penalty, attempt after Oldham killed the ball at the ruck, and then put Tyldesley 6-5 up following an offside offence.
In the dying moments of the half, Paul Martin moved the ball quickly to Dickinson, who placed a well-judged kick over the oncoming Oldham defence and touched down himself with an acrobatic dive between two tacklers.
Sadly, the referee judged the ball had gone forward and disallowed the try.
The second half saw Tyldesley succumb to an early sucker punch, allowing Worrall his second try as the lively number eight weaved his way past six would-be tacklers to score.
With ten minutes remaining, Tyldesley pressed hard for another score but a good clearance kick from Oldham again put Tyldesley under pressure and Worrall drove over the line again.
A combined Tyldesley Knights and Dragons team took on Heaton Moor Seconds, losing 6-3 with a penalty from Fraser Mackintosh their only reward.
