WE are writing in response to the feature that appeared in the March 5 edition of the Bolton Evening News, relating to the redevelopment of the former De Lacy Drive site in Tonge Moor.
The article itself was extremely positive and well written, and we would like to congratulate Alison Barton on an excellent piece of journalism.
However, it must be pointed out that the text did contain quite a serious error. The following sentence "15 bungalows to be let by the council" should in fact read "15 bungalows let by Manchester Methodist Housing Association".
We are aware that some local people have been left confused by this error, and we would, therefore, wish to make it clear that the 15 bungalows were allocated by MMHA and not Bolton council.
A further point of interest to your readers would be to discover the origin of the development's new name -- Brierwood. According to maps produced around the 1920s, Brierwood House stood approximately on the site of the current Labour Club car park, opposite the new development. The re-use of this name helps to ensure that local history is not forgotten.
