From the Evening News, March 14, 1903: MR WW Midgley of Bolton paid a visit to the quaint little village of Rivington on Wednesday, and gave an interesting lecture on Hall-i'th'-Wood, of which he is curator. Mr WH Lever, who presented the house to Bolton Corporation, presided.
The interest of the lecture was enhanced by about 30 views thrown upon the screen by a lime-light lantern, dealing with the architectural features of the building, and illustrating the Crompton antiquities, cotton and textile products of the district.

A BREWERY has closed a Little Hulton pub after an 18-month search to find a tenant landlord failed. Mystified locals watched vans load up with pub furniture, just hours after they had enjoyed their Friday night drink at the Kenyon Arms. The William Younger's pub, in Manchester Road West, now has boards across the windows and the front doorway is bricked up. A spokesman for the company said that there had been a history of trouble at the pub.

The guerillas had sought a 13 million dollar ransom, a getaway airliner, and the release of 21 jailed comrades.

WHY hold a National Corset Week? In the words of a trade spokesman: "Every woman in the country over the age of 13 is a potential brassiere and foundation garment wearer." A wrongly-worn foundation can ruin the health of the wearer. It is hoped that during the week, many women will take the opportunity of learning how to choose the right garment for the right occasion -- for wear under evening dresses, sports outfits, or slim-fitting suits.
The fact remains that a foundation garment, be it a frothy little girdle or one of the iron-hand-in-the-velvet-glove variety, has to fit and follow every little wrinkle and idiosyncrasy of one's body. Only a trained eye can really tell when that sort of fit is there -- and there to stay.
