THE newest clubnight to come to Bolton has its roots firmly in house music history.
Ace of Clubs organisers Brendan and Gareth were both part of the scene in the early Nineties, creating a clubbing magazine, mainly, they admit, because they wanted to get into clubs for free!
Brendan, who is currently writing a book about DJ Sasha, and partner in crime Gareth began putting on clubnights in various venues, including free parties at clubhouses and one-off events.
After a hiatus in the mid Nineties when both of the temporarily lost interest in the scene, the pair met DJ Richard Warburton at London club Home. The spark was re-ignited and with renewed enthusiasm, the trio decided to promote the Ace Of Clubs nights.
Beginning by easing their way back into Manchester nightlife scene, they first staged a night at Bar Centro, using their canny publicity skills to gather addresses on the door.
The next venture was a party on a barge, where the Ace of Clubs group invited their contacts from the previous gig to join them in this exclusive clubnight.
More success followed. Bank Holiday and one-off gigs led to sets at clubs like Sofa, Soft and Barca in Manchester. And then came the ultimate compliment - acclaimed Manchester club Sankeys Soap invited them to play a residency on the first Saturday of every month and Ace Of Clubs was invited to play at the Ministry of Sound. All in all not a bad result!
So Bolton's clubbers should be flattered that Ace Of Clubs next move is the launch of this new monthly slot at Bar Juice, on the second Saturday of the month.
After DJing at the recent Coco Loco night at The Last Drop, DJ Richard Warburton is sure to know how to please the Bolton crowd and with a music policy which is strictly "girly" (that's vocal house to you !) it is likely to be packed out.
There's an element of nostalgia for anyone who remembers those early Nineties clubbing heydays - the guys will be decorating the venue in an atmospheric Ace of Clubs style and have enlisted the skills of a DJ who spun the tunes at some of their original gigs, DJ Podge, to complete the mood!
More info can be found at aceofclubspresents.co.uk where you can also become a member. But if you really want to play your cards right you'll get down to Juice tomorrow night and sample the Ace of Clubs experience for yourself.
Ace Of Clubs, every second Saturday, Bar Juice, free before 10.30pm, £5 before 12, £7 after.
