Horwich is taking a step back in time to celebrate life before television. For many the thought would be too horrible to bear, but an exhibition starting tomorrow at Horwich Heritage Centre, Longworth Road, Horwich, aims to celebrate the pastimes, leisure activities, clubs and organisations which have contributed to social life in the town for more than 50 years.
Pictures, slides and diaries of yesteryear Horwich will all feature. But pride of place will be the recreation of an old style pub, including bar pumps, games, a dart board -- and a life-size figure of Mr Magee, the face of Bolton's Magee's brewery.
Horwich Heritage Society organises an event each year to celebrate times past.
Chairman Stuart Whittle said: "It is a real celebration of life in Horwich and all the things that were going on more than 50 years ago." Cllr John Bragg, the Mayor of Horwich, will open "Horwich before TV" from 10am tomorrow. It will run until 1pm and on subsequent Saturdays from 10am until noon and on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm. For details contact 01204 847797.
