IT wasn't cricket! That was the general opinion among officials of clubs in the Bolton and District Cricket League in 1958 about the rates they had to pay on their grounds being increased.
To try to raise more money to pay the increases, many clubs organised Whist and domino drives, dances and jumble sales. At Astley Bridge cricket club, the rates had been almost doubled, and this picture shows members enjoying a dominoes drive, as they tried to bring more money into their club.
