A GHANAIAN farmer whose village has benefited from the sale of fair trade products will bring a fortnight of events to a close in Bolton on Saturday.

Cocoa-bean grower Comfort Kwaasiba will be welcomed by African drummers as she arrives to spell out the benefits of fairly traded products -- which ensure a reasonable proportion of the price goes to the producer.

The visit by Comfort, who comes from a village near Ghana's capital Accra, marks the end of Bolton's Fairtrade Fortnight which has highlighted the range of products on sale in the town.

She said: "Fair trade is a good thing we now have good drinking water, toilet facilities and schools. Farmers are paid on time and there is no cheating."

Saturday's events include a tasting session at Justicia, the Fair World shop in Knowsley Street, from 2pm to 5pm.

Margaret Johnston, Justicia's development manager, will arrive after a three-day walk from Chester with a goodwill message from the city's mayor.

Bolton South-east MP Dr Brian Iddon and Bolton Council leader Cllr Bob Howarth are also attending the event.

Bolton Council is the largest in the country which only serves free trade tea and coffee.

Shops will sell fair trade products include Costa Coffee, the Co-op, Asda, Sainsbury, The Body Shop, Safeway and Tesco.
