AN MP is urging clubs, schools and youth organisations in Bolton South-east to apply for grants of up to £15,000 from a new fund aimed at creating thousands of clubs for young people.

Brian Iddon has backed the £1.2 million Make Space Development Fund, established by childcare charity Kids' Clubs Network, which has been created to develop a network of clubs for young people throughout the UK.

The scheme will strike at the heart of teenage boredom, vulnerability and crime by creating a network of new clubs for 11-16-year-olds, open regularly after school and in holidays, providing space where young people can hang out safely, relax and meet with friends.

There will also be opportunities to take part in an extensive range of activities from the traditional to the contemporary, including sports, music and arts.

Dr Iddon said: "Make Space research shows that six out of 10 teenagers and eight out of 10 parents think that there is not enough for young people to do in the area where they live. The fund will make a real difference to lives of young people, parents and communities.

"I hope that clubs, schools and youth organisations in Bolton South-east will take advantage of this great opportunity and apply for funding to set up a Make Space club."
