SEEING the name Bobby Dee in the Bolton Evening News the other night brought back fantastic memories of our youth.
We used to go the the "Beachcomber" in Bolton in the 70s/80s. We were members of the "E for B and Bobby Dee" Fan Club.
On Saturday nights hundreds of us followed him from the Beachcomber at midnight. And got on the train at Trinity Street for the "All Nita" at the Twisted Wheel in Manchester -- the queues sometimes went back into Piccadilly -- the atmosphere was electric, and we danced all night at the UK's best venue (Blues and Soul awarded!).
On the night we saw James Brown, Bobby, who I think came from Atherton, introduced us to Rod Stewart and Stevie Marriot (Small Faces). We were absolutely star struck.
Marvellous days -- great memories -- what happened to Bob Dee? The story in the late 70s was that he turned down Radio One to set up family with a stunning girl from Ellesmere Port.
We girls still "party" together whenever possible, but it would be great to see info or photos on Bobby Dee/The Beachcomber and the "Wheel" (I still have my membership card). The best days ever! Still fans!
