HOW long is it since you went clubbing in Manchester? Answer honestly now. And I mean CLUBBING, not just hopping from bar to bar on the Locks before hoofing back to the safe and familiar confines of Bolton for last orders?
Ages isn't it? I thought so. Well it is time you changed all that. And you don't get many better reasons to drag your jaded backsides into the City than this: a Redlight session at Sankeys featuring not one but two kings of the decks: Derrick Carter and David Holmes.
Carter started out DJing in underground bars in the US, and has been producing music since he was 16. He has since made a name for himself as a purveyor of funked up, twisted house tunes, and has played sets all over the world.
Legend has it that Carter is not beyond taking a step away from the decks to swing it on the dancefloor himself. So keep your eyes peeled and get your best dancing moves out tomorrow night when the DJ will be bringing that unique brand of Space Funk to Sankeys, joining DJ-cum-Hollywood player, David Holmes.
Top DJ David Holmes is known for his eclectic, experimental approach to the mixing table. However, he is a man with many fingers in many pies: Holmes recently made a step into the world of movies, producing tracks for Hollywood flicks such as Out Of Sight, Resurrection Man and Ocean's Eleven.
Holmes has also formed his own live outfit The Free Association, as a channel to play hip-hop influenced, souley funk to a live audience. It is a busy weekend for the DJ who will be appearing with The Free Association at Manchester University before joining the party at Sankeys Soap for The Redlight clubnight.
Along with regular spinners Krysko and Bucky, the two DJs will be creating that atmospheric Sankeys magic for what is sure to be an incredible night. So, do you want to swap all that excitement and quality music for a night at the same old bar with the same old people? Nope, I knew you had more taste than that.
