HENRIK Pedersen has spelled out the need for Wanderers to make the most of every chance that comes their way as they battle to beat the drop.

"Every striker in the Premiership knows if you get half a chance you have to score," the Dane acknowledged, "expecially so for us because we don't get too many chances."

Pedersen was playing the best football of his career when he was injured in the derby draw with Manchester United. Three weeks on he has made a remarkable recovery and, having initially aimed to return against Tottenham at the Reebok on Monday week, he was actually in the reckoning for today's relegation duel at Sunderland.

Denied his sixth goal of the season by an outstanding Fabien Barthez save just minutes before suffering ligament damaged to his shoulder after a collision with the United keeper, Pedersen believes Wanderers can take heart from thir performance against the Sir Alex Ferguson's Reds.

"I thought that was in," he said, recalling the close-range header that would have given Wanderers a 2-0 lead in the derby. "But it was a great save.

"We played well against United and I think we deserved a win. We had them under a lot of pressure and made them look quite bad.

"They didn't have many chances but, as sometimes happens when a good team plays a team at the bottom, they got a point out of a game when they were not playing well."

Gudni Bergsson's 'long goodbye' will continue when he makes a farewell appearance at the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Association social on Thursday, March 27.

The members only event will be staged at the Reebok's Lion of Vienna Suite and will start at 7.45pm.
