THE sheer audacity of some people never ceases to amaze me ('Family's security fears after garages are flattened', Bolton Evening News, March 10).

Mr David Townley believes the council should provide fencing round his home because they removed "eyesore garages" -- "All I want is a solid replacement fence or wall," he says.

Well, Mr Townley, in these times of rising council tax charges, I believe the local authority has more pressing priorities than erecting fences around privately-owned dwellings.

Mr Townley believes that thieves now have "an open invitation to visit him." I believe current crime prevention thinking is that providing cover for criminals to work behind simply plays into their hands.

Mr Townley stated further that he fears for his young son's safety -- he does not explain why. Surely playing in or alongside dilapidated garages is dangerous in itself?

Mr Townley has decided to use the press and his local councillor to publicise his claim, so he should be prepared for any criticism that comes his way.
